  • Environmental decommissioning of a manufacturing facility
  • HEPA vac removal of solids, and high pressure powerwashing
  • Decontaminated and demolished wastewater treatment plant and bulk chemical storage tank farm/equalization tanks
  • Waste and decontamination fluids collected and disposed

VIASANT was contracted to perform a comprehensive environmental decommissioning of this Wire Manufacturing Facility in Clinton, CT. The scope of services included the decontamination of former manufacturing infrastructure including galvinizing areas, process trenches and pits, chemical storage rooms and all potentially impacted parts of the facility.

Work included both HEPA Vac removal of solids, and high pressure powerwashing of horizontal and vertical surfaces. All plant utilities and infrastructure were terminated and/or dismantled by VIASANT inclusive of water, gas, propane, and compressed air systems.

In addition to interior plant decommissioning, VIASANT decontaminated and demolished the facility’s wastewater treatment plant and bulk chemical storage tank farm/equilization tanks. Significant volumes of waste and decontamination fluids were collected and disposed of as part of the contract including nonhazardous solid and liquid waste, caustics, acids, and RCRA sludges. In excess of 90 drums of residuals and over 135,000 gallons of bulk liquid waste was shipped off-site. Following demolition of the WWTP structure and removal of dikes and tank foundations, VIASANT backfilled and graded the voids with 500 tons of crushed stone to promote positive drainage. Final waste load-out was completed in May of 2010.
